It was in their blood. John and Jeff’s grandfather was a builder in the 1950s, a true craftsman putting homes together by hand. Their dad joined him in the 1980s and followed the same model.
John and Jeff knew they wanted to be in the business but had a more expansive vision. They joined their father and grandfather when they were in their early twenties but began building a bigger crew and bigger buildings. They expanded adding commercial landscaping and property management divisions. Within two years, they were a $10 million business and today have topped $100 million.
So, what’s the key to their success? John will answer “Relationships. People love us! Our Grandpa coached us—we are old school in how we operate.” And they are very community minded. Every year, the company commits 600 hours to community service, and they have even found ways to direct their core development activity to public purposes. They’ve worked alongside non-profits to design buildings where residents with special needs can live independently, but have the security of a caregiver in close proximity.
